Briggs 18HP opposed cylinders muffler replacement

Recommended Posts

Rowjr70

I have a 1984 work horse GT1800 that I recently purchased. I need to replace the muffler. The Briggs part number is 491307S. Does anyone know how to install this? It does not come with any mounting hardware. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's a thread from us doing a partial disassembly on one for our friends.

There'll be a bunch of pics. Should find what ya need.

Wonder if there is anything in the service manual?

Unable to post picture due to MB restrictions, but the B&S Accessories Catalog shows Muffler P/N 491307S by itself and (2) Adapters, P/N 691970 required, which includes the adapter, gasket and screws. Spark Arrestor P/N 392390 is also available.

If you became a supporter of Red Square that little problem would go away.

I did mine a couple years ago. A lot of tin has to come off. Pay attention to all the screws. You can re-use the adapters. The pipes just slip over them.

Labor intensive, but not difficult.
