Trans Dipstick replacement.

Recommended Posts

1987_WHEEHORSE312

Hey Guys! Merry almost Christmas! I went to check my transfluid earlier on my 312 and the dip stick tube broke off. Got the end removed and that is good. Now I have an empty hole. Can I put a bolt in it to get me through the winter, or had anyone had any luck making a dipstick tube? I'd rather not get a replacement one if there are other options as I'd rather do metal piping if possible. Let me know your ideas. I need something asap as its my plow tractor and its winter time. Also peep the new shed/shop! Thanks!

Thanks! The double doors on the long side seems to be the new style, but I don't like that cause then you have to maneuver the tractor around. This style is awesome cause you get the full depth, like a garage.

Great tractor the 312-8. The one pictured I bought new in 1989, My ex wife hated when I bought the 520-H because I then had 2. Got rid of her 21 years ago.

A regular cork will work to get you through the winter.  :occasion-xmas:

1/2 inchx8 inch black metal pipe does too! Just used that as an experiment and it works perfectly

I've often wondered if a piece of galvanized 1/2" pipe could be cut to the same length as the dipstick tube and used to replace a broken plastic dipstick tube?  Anyone here try it?  Would the dipstick seal snug in the tube?

Yes I just did, home depot sells them 8 inches long just like the OEM tube length is. Works perfect.

Personally, I just say I'm buying parts - technically true. :handgestures-fingerscrossed:
