Difference between these 2 wheels offsets

Recommended Posts

Evening, Not entirely sure where to post this, apologies if wrong area.

I was browsing marketplace this evening and both these wheels are said to fit 23x8x12 tires for Wheelhorse tractors.

what do the different wheel offset mean as far as fit of tractors and tires, what difference does the valve stem with the protruding metal guard make if any?
Thank you

Offset has nothing to do with the fit of the tires on the wheel.  Offset is the distance of the center of the rim to the mounting surface of the wheel. A similar dimension, called inset, is the distance from the inboard rim flange to the mounting surface of the wheel.  This determines where the inboard sidewall of the tire will end up relative to the tractor when the wheel/tire assembly is bolted onto the hub.

What model Wheel Horse do you have?  Once we know that, somebody will come along with the required inset for that model.

The metal guard around the valve stem is exactly that - protection for the valve stem.  It might interfere with installation of a wheel weights, but otherwise should not interfere with anything else on the tractor.

Oh ok thank you for clarifying. I have an 856. Have already been told the top picture style will fit. I just came across both styles when looking and wondered the difference.

Yup, that one will fit. The other one - maybe. The second is from a much newer tractor - the bolt pattern looks the same, the center hole may not be big enough to fit over the pilot on the hub...
