FLtractor 69 #1 Posted yesterday at 03:06 AM Evening, Not entirely sure where to post this, apologies if wrong area. I was browsing marketplace this evening and both these wheels are said to fit 23x8x12 tires for Wheelhorse tractors. what do the different wheel offset mean as far as fit of tractors and tires, what difference does the valve stem with the protruding metal guard make if any? Thank you
8ntruck 8,314 #2 Posted yesterday at 03:47 AM Offset has nothing to do with the fit of the tires on the wheel. Offset is the distance of the center of the rim to the mounting surface of the wheel. A similar dimension, called inset, is the distance from the inboard rim flange to the mounting surface of the wheel. This determines where the inboard sidewall of the tire will end up relative to the tractor when the wheel/tire assembly is bolted onto the hub. What model Wheel Horse do you have? Once we know that, somebody will come along with the required inset for that model. The metal guard around the valve stem is exactly that - protection for the valve stem. It might interfere with installation of a wheel weights, but otherwise should not interfere with anything else on the tractor.

Have already been told the top picture style will fit. I just came across both styles when looking and wondered the difference.

The second is from a much newer tractor - the bolt pattern looks the same, the center hole may not be big enough to fit over the pilot on the hub...
Racinbob 12,393 #5 Posted yesterday at 12:13 PM I always seem to have my eyes open for good tires/rims for my tractors. It can be a bit of a pain measuring accurately. Most rims have a deeper offset that Wheel Horse has (at least on the models I have). I carry this little board in my truck for whenever the need arises. Measured from the correct spot or not at lease I knew if they'd fit. 3
ineedanother 1,804 #6 Posted 16 hours ago Another note worth mentioning, although I might not be absolutely correct and I'm sure there are other facts or notes of interest but "tractor" rims, speaking of garden tractors here, typically have the valve stem on the inside where "lawn mowers" and other vehicles typically have the valve stem on the outside for convenience. The wheel in your top picture is almost certainly from a garden tractor.
