AHS 1,566 #1 Posted 12 hours ago i just got the Ber Vac W/o a drive belt. Upon looking at part #’s, it is a B62 and 657644. I have HEARD the belt is 5/8” x 65”? Am i correct?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,819 #2 Posted 11 hours ago B62 is the industrial belt sizing - A = 1/2" wide B = 5/8" wide. The 62 is what engineers use to design belt drives for a specific speed. I believe it is the circumference of the cords running around the belt which are inside the rubber so there lies the difference. They don't care what covers the cords which are carrying the load. For commercial belts add 2" to the A belts and 3" to the B belts. Some manufacturers have mixed the two sizing systems. They will call a belt a B belt because it is 5/8" wide but their length is 62". Very confusing. Best to check the actual belt length unless you trust the supplier's description. You will never find a B62 belt at Gates that is 62" long. You may have noticed odd pulley dimensions for sheaves (pulleys) that industry uses. That dimension is where the belt cords run so when used with the A and B belts their calculations are accurate when designing machinery speeds.
peter lena 9,543 #3 Posted 10 hours ago @AHS belts are easy , would bet EVERY RELATED PULLEY ,HAS A HANG UP / ROUGH AREA . thats what eats belts , as the bearing lubrication fails , it starts a small , incremental hang up , belt bounce , regularly refer to this area , multiply that by belt connection , wear areas . the initial , pto lever engagement , tells the story , typically a screaming / rough engagement . just a suggestion , pete
