joj2180 0 #1 Posted 7 hours ago I am switching out a 1976 Kohler 14 hp K321s with a Kohler M14QS 60125 in a 1976 Bobcat M371. The M14 came out of a wheelhorse tractor, but I didn't remove it. I am having trouble with the wiring- can anyone provide any photos of the solenoid setup, regulator/rectifier and the key switch. There are no lights, I just nee the engine to start and turn a few pulleys. Thanks!
Sparky-(Admin) 23,924 #2 Posted 3 hours ago I broke your question out and made it its own topic. Will get more eyes on it this way. Does your Mag 14 have a voltage regulator? Usually mounted up near the carburetor and that would make it a 15a charging system. Some Mag 14’s didn’t come with a regulator and that would make it an unregulated 3a charging system. You have to be absoutley sure because the wrong ignition switch may fry the M-14 ignition system. You need an ignition switch with an "M" terminate for the M14
joj2180 0 #4 Posted 2 hours ago I do not believe I have a voltage regulator. I have two wires that come out from behind the flywheel, they go into a small connector mounted above the started on the shroud for the flywheel. One purple wire comes out of this connector and that goes to another loose connector that also has a wire coming into it from the ignition module. I do not know what this connector (with the purple wire and wire from the ignition module) connected to. And thank you for breaking out my question!
joj2180 0 #5 Posted 1 hour ago I am good to pick up a new ignition switch if I need to for the M14, but I am finding that the switches available for the "M" series do not include the 14 hp.
pfrederi 19,114 #6 Posted 48 minutes ago Any "M" terminal switch will work the only issue usually is the size of the hole in the instrument panel it will fit into. Make sure the switch has good ground ...other wise you will not be able to turn off your M-
953 nut 62,686 #7 Posted 32 minutes ago Going from a K series to an M series Kohler is very using a relay that can be purchased at any auto parts store. 1 hour ago, joj2180 said: do not believe I have a voltage regulator. The purple wire started life as a whit wire but for some reason they tend to turn purple, don't know why but at any rate the purple wire comes from your voltage regulator and will go to the "R" terminal of the ignition switch.
