95-36MS01 36" Mower Deck

While I'm waiting on parts for the B-80 and the 656 I decided to dig into the mower deck to see what kind of shape it was in.  After removing the blades I was able to easily remove the pulleys and spindles.  The only serious issue that I found was the condition of the spindles where the blades ride.

According to the parts manual the spindle # is 107446 that supersedes to 107983.  A google search yields extremely high prices for replacement spindles.  Since these spindles aren't usable as is, I think I will fill in the area where the blades ride by welding them and then turn them down on the lathe to the correct diameter.  I don't really have anything to loose considering they aren't really usable now.

I'm a little confused by the fact the rear of the deck is wide open.  This is supposed to be a side discharge deck.  Is there supposed to be some sort of plate across the back?  The parts list isn't really clear on this.  The condition of the side chute isn't all that great.  Is there any reason I couldn't convert this deck to rear discharge?

Looks like someone removed the rear baffle. Not sure why??

As far as the spindles go, I have added a thick washer on top of the blade and a new nut to hold it and got more life out of the spindles.

Those 36 inch spindles are common and should not be hard to pick up used for a few bucks. A lot cheaper than a repair. I know i have a few. Might just find them here in the wanted section.

@BradKahler  the secret to deck preservation  is to never let  it get bad , been doing this for years to all my  tractor , attachment's , breaking the  grunge cycle is what has to be done  , regularly use a cable and chain spray , after clean out , have also removed any / all  grass trapping  set ups . call them "  rot boxes "  all my decks also  cut and  just about self clean , with discharge , always cut at highest setting  , this is also how I  store my  decks, after a hot sun lubrication bake , they  are  on the rear wheels up against the wall  , screw in eye bolt and heavy spring  to lift linkage , insures , visual  inspection ease . also did all my bearings over  , with lucas green chassis grease , deck , mule drive , pto set up , never had a failure  or whyining  noise . the big difference is that I  went after  EVERY RELATED ROTATIONAL PART ASSEMBLEY , for  lubrication upgrade , that absolutely  killed off the rust / grunge issue . my personal experience with decks , evolved  into total  , enhancement . have 3 decks like this , hours of hot sun is the lubrication killer  , no rust / rot anywhere . also never  burned out a  pto  clutch , every related pulley moves with ease , no belt squealing , just my own experience , pete
