Is a no external resistor needed. Is this the proper coil to put on a start GEN engine seems to be kind of confusing what to get and not buy over the big pond junk thanks in advance.

Yes, a 1967 to 1979 Volkswagen ignition coil will get the job done and any idiot at the local auto parts counter will be able to look it up,  :confusion-questionmarks:   though you may need to tell them what color the VW is.
