ri702bill 10,951 #2 Posted November 8, 2025 A small glasspack straight-thru muffler would mellow it down a tad, like a stack does.... 1
Achto 30,434 #3 Posted November 8, 2025 The longer pipe sure changes the sound. Saw one GT with the pipe run all the way out the back of the tractor. Had a really nice rap to it. Did not sound like a typical single cylinder small engine.
Pullstart 68,603 #4 Posted November 10, 2025 (edited) Very nice! I’ve made a few, they are fun to tune the sound. A bolt, a washer, a cut or convoluted washer, they all make a difference. Have fun! https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/105214-the-big-exhaust-conundrum/?tab=comments#comment-1141251 I did finally build a real muffler. It sounds great! https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/61099-picked-up-a-c-101-this-morning/?page=3&tab=comments#comment-1183207 Edited November 10, 2025 by Pullstart
Lee1977 7,499 #5 Posted November 11, 2025 Here one I made for an 18 HP Vanguard. There is nothing in the 2"" tail pipe or the 3/4 tubing up to it. Just the 1" washer with the two 3/4" washer spaced out with drilled out 1/4" nut spacers.
Phan 50 #6 Posted November 13, 2025 I'm wondering this one can be installed in WH 12 Auto. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B09S5LD9Y8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AHSL5HR4HP3O4&psc=
Lee1977 7,499 #7 Posted November 14, 2025 It doesn't give the diameter of the pipe.my guess is it's too small diameter for a 12 Kohler.
953 nut 63,540 #8 Posted November 14, 2025 As I recall it the mufflers on 2 cycle mini-bikes have some back pressure engineered into them, Not too sure that would work for you.
