JoeM 8,925 #1 Posted November 4 Was looking through this web site and seen this onan muffler, might be a good fit for a Kohler K or Mag?? I got some Kohler parts from these guys and seemed good.
ebinmaine 74,617 #2 Posted November 4 Given decent skill with a welder, one could repair or even make a mid 70s "small can" Nelson replacement.

The hard part of welding mufflers is the rust on the inside The muffler on my C81 had seen better days with small holes and cracks. But I decided to try brazing holes and cracks. Brass especially likes clean medal but no good way to clean. My brazing was not nice and flowing, more of a dab, cool a tiny bit, heat dab, cool. But I got it sealed up. 2
JoeM 8,925 #4 Posted November 5 I've made a couple mufflers, really did not sound good. They we quieter but not like the tone of an OE Standley muffler. Differently a science. I figured with a few pre bent fittings that onan might just be OK. The body is close in size to some of the ones that came on Kohler machines. Welded and repaired some, used low heat MIG. A always use a thicker patch material and ride the heat there easing over to the thinner muffler side. Down passes and or just spread out tacks. It is a challenge. Brazing is good too but like Jim says it has got to be super duper clean.
