Gear Drive Deck and Tiller Questions

Digging through things in the barn to do some trading. 
I dug a parts deck out for Chrishar and came across a 2nd gear drive deck I forgot I had.  I think it came with a pile of implements from east Texas’s. 
The model tag is long gone. 
Will it fit my 1966 1056?

What else will it fit?

 

Next is 2 Tillers that also came from east Texas. This 1st one has the square corners.  Am I correct that it fits the 1973?No Name, B&C series and 3,4,500 models?

 

Interesting this needle bearing is missing?  When I rotate the pulley the tines turn so maybe the gears are not to damaged. 
 

This 2nd tiller has the angled corners, so does it fit 1964 through 1972?  Do I recall it can be modified to fit the 1972 and later models?   Model 7 1251

Fit? Yes

Work? No

Why? This deck was designed for 1961-1965 tractors with the pedal-actuated belt-tensioning PTO clutch. Your 1056 has the newer lever-actuated PTO with the friction plate clutch. They do not play together.

Interestingly, though, the plate and idler pulley (blue arrows) are some but not all of the early PTO system parts (actually sold with the deck, not the tractor!). The plate (and its non-idler twin, if present) should have the early release catch that predates the Attach-a-matic. The triple pulley (yellow arrow) is a “jackshaft” between the engine pulley and the deck’s gear shaft.

That is a early 1961 or so deck - note that the side plate mount to the frame is captured by the shaft - pre tach-a-matic style. You also need its sister plate for the other side. These are a true PITA to mount the deck!! These "Suitcase" style decks do not cut as well as the later curved deck models - IMHO. I have a similar one from Dad's 702 - used it once - not thrilled. On a positive note - the two trunnion rods are individually adjustable to tension the belt. This allows you get it to track central to the tractor. The later style tends to trail to the left rear as the mounts wear - no corrective adjustment.

@Handy Don @ri702billThis deck came on a 1961 Suburban 551. It is similar but different from the one  pictured below. What’s the difference?

The shape of the blades and four, not two of the annoying individually manually height adjusted gage wheels. And the afore mentioned jackshaft is missing.

Both of those tillers will fit all C,300,400,500 series tractors. I have a 7-1251 that I’ve been using on my Work Horse GT-1800 since 1984. Repairing the other one is really not a big deal. The hardest part is getting the tines off. Since the tines appear to have little use it’s definitely worth fixing.

They will work on older tractors too providing you use the new style rear axle hitch, belly hitch, and PTO. 

 

I think 1965- 1972 used the older style rear hitch and the tiller mounting bracket to match. But the tiller itself and how it hooks up are very similar. Swapping over to the newer axle (dozen blade/ tiller) hitch is the only thing you need for a newer tiller vs the older ones.

The older tiller, 7-1211 for example, mounts a little different and uses a two belt drive set up with an idler pulley mounted at the back of the frame. The newer style, like the 77-36TL01, uses the one belt set up with the idler under the engine. It takes very little to adapt the newer and much easier one belt set up to an older tiller. Here's one I ran for years on my 76. 

 

 

The axle bracket is different and the slot hitch is utilized on the older style for the lift. I've gone through this many times here and basically you can adapt the best of both worlds, ease of belt installation on the newer and a little easier to mount the tiller itself on the older. Download the two manuals for the models I mentioned and you'll easily see what I mean. I'm sure there are modifications to how I did it that will work as well.

A 32" width of cut deck?

What is the complete serial on the other deck and what is it's width of cut?

A-143x1 ? The A- serial numbers started for the 1962 model year.

This manual covers the 36" deck as well.
