8ntruck 8,166 #1 Posted October 23 (edited) I've stumbled onto a Massey Ferguson CG1700 series tractor for sale. It comes with a FEL , small backhoe, and a trailer. 450 hours, 20hp diesel and the possibility of some other implements - most of them I'm not really interested in. Asking price $13k. Best of all, I guess, is that it is red. Sounds tempting and would be very useful in our 20 acre wood. I dunno, though..... oliver2-44 10,981 #2 Posted October 23 That has the Iseki engine, which I hear are very good. While your 8n has weight and torque, the power steering, FEL and backhoe sure are handy developing a new property.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,650 #3 Posted October 23 The 1700 series from MF are good little tractors, falling into the sub-compact scope of things. If I was in the market for a sub-compact, it would be up there with Deere's 1-series and Kubota's offerings.
wh500special 2,349 #4 Posted October 26 (edited) @8ntruck My dad has the Kubota equivalent of that machine, the BX23 (or something like that) with the 60” deck, FEL, and backhoe. He uses it all the time. If he’s outside, chances are the tractor is nearby serving as a wheelbarrow, puller-outer of things, or digger. He uses it to put heavy things into or out of the truck bed, lifts firewood up on to the deck, and touches up the driveway. obviously the backhoe isn’t used as often as the tractor and loader, but he uses it a lot more than I ever guessed he would. He’s dug trenches with it, drug stuff out of the woods, taken out stumps, and planted countless trees and bushes. It’s been really good for ripping out roots of nearby plants that have encroached into a spot where he wanted to dig. the backhoe is amazingly powerful for such a diminutive thing. It has enough power to flip the tractor over if you’re not careful. So it has capability beyond what it looks like. If you’re looking for an excuse to buy it you’ll find them within ten minutes of having it home. steve Edited October 26 by wh500special
