Kohler M14 Carb which is better Walpro or Kohler, came with a Walpro ? Thanks

I have some with the Carter carburetors and some with the Walbro and both are about equal in my estimation.

I look at this two ways - availabilty of quailty (OE) rebuild parts, and if the low and high circuits are externally adjustable....

If I have a Walbro giving me trouble it is going to get replaced with a Carter or Kohler if I have one. Back in the 60's they had Carter on them, the later ones don't have a name I assume they are Kohler.

Walbros don't have the low speed mix adjustment. They seem to work fine but if I have a choice I go with a Carter.

Some do have the low speed adjustment. 

 

 

This one was on a M14 and I thought it was giving me trouble but it wasn't. 

 

Educate me, I always thought Kohler was the carb to have.

I didn’t even know Kohler made their own carburetors? Were these used on newer  models like 80`s and up? I usually stick with the older models 60s. I had a few early 70.`s models. My first wheel horse was a 312 A it’s been so long. I don’t remember what it had for a carb. I don’t miss that one.

Makes more sense to me that WH just set their desired build specs for engines based on their needs (including price) and what the manufacturers had on offer.

The Kohler carbs go way back. All the 60's and 70's I've had have/had them.

Is there a logo or some kind of marking that indicates Kohler made this carb? I believe I’ve never seen one or just never noticed it.

Never seen a "Kohler carb" all I have run into are Carter's (which probably made them for Kohler) and the Walbro's

Carter did make the Kohler carbs with some nickle and dime differences, mainly stamping. Generally they are the same but my guess is that Kohler simply wanted 'their' carb on their engines.

If anyone has a pic of a "Kohler"  name stamped on a carb, I'd like to see it. The Carter carbs had a "Kohler " number in the stamping. Most of those carbs listed in that reference are probably Carters

I don't think that exists Mike. As I said, Carter made the carbs for Kohler. As far as I know only a few minor changes were made. As you said, mostly stampings. Both carbs use the same rebuild kits.
