Kohler K141 Magneto Question

Recommended Posts

So my 633 has a K141T on it, with a butchered ignition system.  Had no magnet on the flywheel (no place for one even), and looks like it was wired to run with a coil powered with a battery, but no generator... so no way to recharge the battery.  Battery dies, tractor dies.

I searched and could not find any magneto parts for this ~62 year old engine, save the coil (Chinese).  I managed to grab a flywheel/stator/coil and what looks like an igniter from a salvage yard 60 miles away off a log splitter that had a K181.

Needed cleaning but the flywheel magnet is in great shape and the stator cleaned up nicely.  Coil looked pretty beat, so I got a new one, but now the issue I am having is the wires aren't marked, and they are in different positions then on the original coil.

I would assume the short wire goes to the stator (ground) and the long wire goes to the points/condenser, but you know what happens when you assume...

Is this correct, and does anyone have any experience with this aftermarket style coil?

I have a complete 633 engine for sale that I got with a bunch of other engines. I haven't even checked if it has spark yet. planning on doing that this weekend if I get a chance.

Yes, I would assume that too. It wouldn't hurt it if it was reversed anyway
