K301 S 47147C stator question

I am working on a 69 Raider 12 with the K301 S 47147C engine.  I have pulled all of the wire and every bit of electronics out of the tractor to replace it all because it was in pretty bad shape.  While I do this I am also converting from breakerless to points.  I got my new stator in today and doesn't fit in my flywheel.  The one that came out of it is a 3 wire and the new one is a 2 wire which I think is all I need with the new points setup.  Is there a stator that will work for this conversion or do I need to locate a different flywheel?

Have you checked the original stator to know if it is good? Two of the wires would have gone to your voltage regulator. Not all Kohler stators are alike and the ones from a Triger ignition are unlike all others.

I didn't even test it because the wires were falling apart when I took it out.  I will peel back the shielding and see if I can find some good wire and test it.  Where did the third wire go, was it for the trigger.

Look at section 8 of the attached manual. Page 8.4 shows a wire from the stator going to the ignition system. This wire will no longer be needed since you are going to a points battery powered ignition but the stator charging portion should continue to function.

Page 8.14 has information on testing the stator.

I checked the ohm readings on my old stator today and it actually may be good.  I peeled back enough wire coverings that I think I got some good wire to attach too.  I am going to try it out I guess and see if it works.

Gently clean you old stator with some dielectric cleaner and a tooth brush.

Test the cleaner on a small spot before you spray the whole thing.

I did clean it up a bit and reinstalled it.  When I put my meter on the two main leads coming out and spin the motor over with the starter it does show a little bit of voltage so I am hopeful that it's good.  I wont have the rest of the stuff for my points until friday so it will be this weekend before I know if any of this really works or not.
