The gas cap off my 1989 520-H will fit on my 1985 312-8 and my other 312-8 that I don't know the year, i think it's 1988 or 1989. Well, does it absolutely need to specify that it's only for a 1988 or 1989 520-H? Or does it just need keep the gas in the tank? That cap is a basic 2" cap design and they were / are universal between many many different Wheel Horse models and many many different outdoor power equipment manufacturers and over many many years. They're quite common so I'm not sure why it would require "all of the trial and error of going through the plethora of ones available". You can measure the opening on the tank to verify the size is 2" Get the one already posted from Home Depot, it doesn't have that extra gauge on it to easily see how much gas is in the tank when the key is off and it will fit your 1988 or 1989 520-H fuel tank. Plus you can always take it back if you're not happy with it. Or call Lincoln from AZ tractors and he might have a nice used specific cap from a 1988 or 1989 520-H.
