Bar Nuthin 1,601 #1 Posted October 11 There’s nothing more satisfying than using a Wheel Horse to perform a chore. Unless, of course you’re using two! 5 10

The closest neighbor (with the pointers) has caught the Wheel Horse bug also. All of the lots are normal width but extend way back (1 acre). Mine is loaded with massive trees.

F. Marra 17 99 #10 Posted November 3 Finally got around to putting the used 15 year old cyclone rake to use. The engine fired right up on first pull after a carb clean and new spark plug. It was a pain getting cyclone vac to match the parts needed. but i installed the newer heavy duty impeller, new wheel horse adaptor dual pin hitch, and a new quick connect mower deck adaptor. The unit worked well, i need to adjust and clean the mower deck. I never used it before unitl the leaf clean up. For the first time i gotta say it work well. I used the 25' extension hose for the larger piles and hard to reach places and that was also very helpful. Also, this buck was interested in what i was doing, hes been hanging around the house a lot lately.
rmaynard 16,633 #11 Posted November 3 Leaf pickup began yesterday for me. I think I've got all of you beat with my 26 year old Cyclone Rake (purchased in 1999). The little 5HP Tecumseh needed a new air filter this year, but started on the second pull. I still drag it behind a John Deere because there was not a hitch or boot for my 1977 B-100 with rear discharge deck at the time. I will probably continue to use the JD until it just doesn't go anymore. Now that my 14 year old grandson wants to make money, he's my leaf guy. The 16 year old drives now and has asked to rent it and the trailer from me so he can make the big bucks. Looks like it's going to be busy this year. 5

My cyclone rake has evolved over time with donor parts and a new tapered bag (zippers became problematic), but my original purchase is somewhat unique. In 2018, I saw one for sale on FB for $400 about 2 hours away from my house, so I went to check it out. When I walked into the guy's garage to look at it -it looked exactly as shown in this photo (ladder and all). Turns out the seller was Mr. Bowin's grandson, handling his estate. The thing was immaculate. I immediately agreed to buy it. The grandson said there were some files that went with it. Turns out, Mr. Bowin had several correspondences with Woodland Products and was featured in one of their early sales brochures. There are even some handwritten notes and drawings on design improvements. Here is a photo of it when I got it home and assembled it. A more recent photo of it hanging on my garage wall and photo of a donor unit I picked up and flipped after swapping engines and wheels. I had already upgraded to a tapered bag, And I ended up profiting $100 all said and done. Edited November 3 by Bar Nuthin 1

Why did you swap engines?
rmaynard 16,633 #14 Posted November 3 Mine too has evolved over time. I hit a low hanging branch and broke the frame. I made a repair that held for a couple of years until the zippers started to fail. I had also picked up a rock that broke the tip off of one blade of the impeller, so Woodland Power suggested a whole new impeller, housing, bag and frame. The new stuff was great as the impeller housing was bigger, and the tube connecting to mower deck to the housing was a bigger diameter. Uh oh, that meant a new boot for the mower deck. Well as it happened, my brother in law has just given me his JD X300 which required a different boot anyway. Long story short, several hundred dollars later I basically had a new Cyclone Rake. It is still on the same carriage, and is still powered by the Tecumseh Enduro 5 engine, and still doing the job. Incidentally, my next door neighbor bought a DR leaf vacuum system. He's had three engines on that one.

Jumped up 1 HP and the Briggs seemed to start more reliably than the Tecumseh, having a choke rather than a primer bulb. 1st pull every time. The carburetor setup on that particular Tecumseh is kind of odd if you ever need to work on it. But it still ran fine when I sold it.
