jpmcleod 4 #1 Posted September 24, 2009 I just picked up a 312-8 with a 12hp Kohler Magnum. Can anyone tell me where the serial numbers would be located. I tried to go on the FAQ and I was blocked out. Is this a replacement engine or did they put Kohler Magnum engines in them? Thanks for your response.
travisg84 1 #2 Posted September 24, 2009 They did come with magnums starting in 86 I believe. The serial numbers should be on the lower left side of the flywheel shroud. :scratchead:

kpinnc 14,589 #4 Posted September 24, 2009 Magnum engines were used after around 1987 I think. My 310-8 has one, as does my 1991 312-H. The numbers for the tractor should be on a tag under the seat. Part number and serial.
Duff 206 #5 Posted September 24, 2009 Kevin and Gator are right - the Magnum engines came in around '86 or '87. If the serial number decal is missing from yours, if you use 21-12K806 for parts look-up on the Toro site there isn't much difference between the Magnum-engined 312's. I've rebuilt an '89, am rebuilding an '88, and have an '87 in the pipeline. So far I haven't found any parts that didn't interchange between the three years. There probably are some differences (experts- chime in here, please!) but I haven't found 'em yet! Duff EDIT: 21-12K806 is a representative tractor number (1989). The engine number will be on the flywheel shroud as stated above.....
