ML3 1,872 #1 Posted Tuesday at 08:39 PM Trying to figure out what model snowblower that came with the 702. Model/serial # no longer attached. Need a belt & trying to figure out what size. The original Wheel Horse belt is so brittle it cracks/breaks when I bend it so its bout impossible to try & match it up at the farm store. I think the # on belt is 1588?? stevasaurus 23,381 #2 Posted Tuesday at 09:01 PM For all intents and purposes it is a STR 324. I am not sure the pulley/fanbelt set-up for turning the shoot is factory...but that is a nice set-up.
ri702bill 9,797 #3 Posted Tuesday at 10:42 PM I scored the same model Snowblower that was a complete NOS barn find. Over 50 years old - never mounted to a tractor!! Mounted on my 854 with an 8 speed. Low range makes for running the engine at WOT with a crawling ground speed if needed... I did two modifications immediately - these were WH improvements on the 1965 version. I added a second upper chain idler and rerouted the path with a longer chain. Thir greatly improved the "wrap" on the auger sprocket. Yours only has 3 teeth of the sproket engaged with the chain - very prone to stripping teeth off the welded-on gear.... The two ball bearings for the driveshaft are not the spherical floating style as OE. I changed those to the floating style, as the sheet metal housing tends to bend and wiggle in use... My 2 belts were brand new but dry rotted - TSC had what I needed......
wallfish 18,521 #4 Posted Tuesday at 11:06 PM Cut the belt, measure the length of it and go get one. It's easier than measuring a circle. 1 hour ago, stevasaurus said: I am not sure the pulley/fanbelt set-up for turning the shoot is factory Yeah factory, the early ones used a belt 2
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,626 #5 Posted Wednesday at 08:34 AM The last thrower to use the belt to turn the chute was model ST-323. It is also the first to have square ends on the housing. Before this they were round and 30" wide. The 32 is the width and the 3 = 1963.
