Transaxle 8spd oil has bubbles

Recommended Posts

C100_NY

My c100 wheelhorse transaxle oil has recently been changed. I use 80w-90 gear oil.  I check the oil the other day and it has a ton of small bubbles in it that will not go away. The tractor has set overnight to let bubbles calm and they will not go away? Also the tractor has some minor trouble slipping into 3rd gear. But i know that is expected with old tractors.

I would not be too concerned with the bubbles as long as the oil looks clean.

Thank you. I changed the oil that was in it when i got it. it was fairly dirty. Then mowed the lawn and dropped the oil again and refilled in hopes of getting the majority of the dirty and bad oil out.

Did you raise the front about a foot to allow all the gear oil inside get out over the hump inside?? If not, old oil remains to get mixed with the new...

Maybe the gear oil used has a anti foaming additive problem. For little money, might want to change it again and use a different brand.

At least contact the oil mfg. and ask about the problem.

I am thinking about trying some john deere brand gear oil. I used coastal which is a cheaper brand.

@C100_NY  agree with @ri702bill  0n the possible retention  of old oil mixture  in front of trans , went over to hi  mileage , atf fluid as a flushing agent , also raise my front end  for better draining , also  recommend  getting some road time on that oil flush , have any  CUL DE SACS  in your area ?  put some miles on that flushing  ,  an empty  road , or housing area , lets you use every gear  / range , picture that oil  flinging around to every area , also replace the shift boot , grease the underside of it?  helps it  slide over the irregularities' on top of the gear box , like a tye wrap  on the shifter rod , just ABOVE THE boot holding spot ? the spot it stays at  is what you want to hold , also like a climbing gear  oil , read specs . regularly check over  my horses after use , top up fuel , sta bil in gas , check engine oil  , gear oil , basic stuff , pay attention to what its telling you . do that  after EVERY USAGE , pete

I have used it and had no issues. Coastal is a Warren Oil Co. their reputation is pretty good.
