4runr 3 #1 Posted Saturday at 02:09 PM I got my hands on a completely disassemble 1960’s Wheel Horse. The belt cover decal says “604”. All the photos of a 604 show the fuel cap in the hood. Mine has the 2 piece fuel tank with the Choke and throttle handles in the vertical flat part of the tank, It has a Tecumseh H60-75009 engine. I was told the engine is original to the tractor with the exception of it having a newer short block, My Dad had an old WH when I was a kid and this looks much like that tractor. I think it was a “553”?
4runr 3 #2 Posted Saturday at 02:48 PM I just found where the serial number is (27278) if that helps.
ri702bill 9,697 #3 Posted Saturday at 04:16 PM Welcome! More pictures of it would be helpful. Download the manual for it. Those 2 piece gas tanks are prone to leaking at the gasketed joint - newer ethanol compatable gaskets are now available... but you should be using ethanol free gas.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,611 #4 Posted Saturday at 04:56 PM The 1963 model 653 used the H60-75009 and the 27278 tractor serial number fits in with others recorded. The only other tractor to use the H60-75009 was the 1963 model 33E Lawn Ranger. 1

4runr 3 #6 Posted Saturday at 05:32 PM I found the post FORMARIZ shared of his 653, His looks much like the components that I have with mine. It is all rusty but complete. I have access to a sand blast cabinet, and will be cleaning and painting for the next several months, and then assembling. 2

wallfish 18,466 #10 Posted Saturday at 09:57 PM Yes, post more pics of what you have or it's possible you may only end up with the info of what that label once belonged too. Many WH parts are interchangeable and there are a bunch of Frankenhorses out there too.
953 nut 61,081 #12 Posted Saturday at 10:38 PM More pictures could help confirm the model, but regardless of the model it is a Wheel Horse and we are here to help you get to know it better. 1 1
WHGuy413 2,796 #13 Posted Sunday at 02:25 PM 604 did not have a 2 piece gas tank. Curious to see more pictures of it.
4runr 3 #14 Posted yesterday at 12:37 AM The tank is currently at a machine shop getting all the broken screws drilled out. Most of the rest of the parts are it my barn loft waiting for me to have time to sand blast. I’ll take some pics as I pull parts out for that task. I’m pretty confident it is a 653 that a previous owner put a different belt cover on.
