Caleb Jones 0 #1 Posted 17 hours ago Has anyone ever put a 4 inch pulley on the transaxle of a wheelhorse 312-8? I seem to struggle to find the right belt size. I believe the Kohler motor has a 4 inch and there was a 6 or 6.5 on the transaxle. Im thinking I need a79 inch belt but I'm not sure. Does anyone know? Ed Kennell 42,466 #2 Posted 16 hours ago (edited) to the Caleb If your 312-8 has stock engine and transmission pulleys it should take a 5/8X82" belt. If you want to increase the tractor speed by replacing the stock 7" pulley with a 4"pulley a shorter belt and possibly belt guard modifications may be required to permit proper belt stopping for gear shifting. I buy all my belts at TSC. If they don't fit, you can exchange them for the correct belt. Just keep the belt and sleeve clean for a full refund. The diameter of the pulley multiplied be 3.14 will yield the circumference of the pulley but the belt generally only contacts half of the circumference, SOOOOOO, for each inch of pulley size change the belt would be 1.57" longer or shorter as the case may be presuming both pullies are relatively close in size. If you were going from a 2" to a 12" pulley that formula would be out the window because more than 50% of the 12" pulley circumference would probably be contacting the belt.
