24hp onan to replace 20hp, potential problems?

Recommended Posts

I have chance to buy a 24hp onan and I have a 520h that needs a motor. What problems will the install of the bigger engine create? Is the crankshaft output diameter the same as the 20hp? Any other issues come to mind?

thank you for the help.

The P224 is a bit different than the 16, 18, and 20 versions.  Its physically wider, taller, deeper, with a higher crank centerline.  16/18/20 are effectively the same "small block" twins, the 224 is considered a big block, nearly 1 liter of displacement

The crankshaft may be 1-7/16" in diameter instead of 1-1/8" like most Wheel Horses are.

Is the crank thrust bearing equipped to handle the axial thrust from the PTO?
