Hi, I'm looking for some 8" rims for my newly refurbished 312-8. I'll be mounting 16x6.5-8 tires on them. Has anyone tried these rims from surplus center?

Not sure whether those rims will work or not, but when switching from 6” to 8” you will need to get new axle spindles, as the 6” spindles are longer (unless you want the raked look)
For 6 bucks though, certainly worth a shot.

Also, place a wanted ad in the wanted classified section for the parts you are looking for.

Yes I'm aware of the spindle situation and the interference with the 37" mower, But I'll only be using the the larger wheels for plowing in the winter. Thanks

When I switched my 312-A to 8" wheels, I remember having to make new tie rods, but I think that's because I took the wheels and probably spindles off a 416-8 but didn't swap the tie rods before I gave the 416-H away.  Just a thought. If you're getting new spindles you may need to get new tie rods also unless yours are adjustable. Mine were not.

Oh, and nice work on that tractor - it looks great.  I'm hoping to refurb my 312-A, but probably doing my GT-1848 first.

P.S. I'm very curious about what looks like the front of 2 classic bikes in the background... whatch got? :greetings-clappingyellow:

I replaced all my 6" wheels for 8".     Good price on those wheels, too bad the shipping is $35.00.

I bought 2 of them, the hug is 3" so I used a 3/4" collar and a couple of washers behind the wheel. I didn't change the spindles..They also don't have grease fittings. I have on my Raider.

Kind of a pain to drill for the fittings, ground a spot first with a Dremel before drilling. They come with tube spacer between the bearings, have to knock it to the side to knock the gearings out.

I had to put the grease fitting on the back side of those wheels. I used the narrow rims from the Raider with 400x8 Triribs on my 312-8.

Picture of the 312-8.

Good strong wheels only problem is no grease fittings.

But, if those are sealed bearings, no fitting is needed..... Makes for cleaner wheels too.

I had one bearing to freeze up on me, might have been a little tight when I got the wheels

@eo1bart  opportunity , looking at your tractor picture  , notice the  pin clip in your pto lever  to clutch unit ?  that lower corner, spring clip round eye , is a great spot to stop  sloppy noisy buzzing , attach a  light extension spring from that  corner circle , to the hitch pin clip on the frame to swing arm base . it will stop buzzing  , added that to my 3 horses , it works , pete

I have done the switch on 2 310-8’s.  I don’t know where the spindles were from on the first one, on the second, I was fortunate enough to get the HD Spindles and HD wheels. Neither one required a tie rod change or adjustment.

Most 30 year old or older Wheel Horses need new tie rods as they are completely worn out, I just make a new set with heims joints. The last ones built are almost 20 years old now.

Definitely a good price on those wheels. Shipping may not be...

Spacing on the spindle can be corrected as per Don's use of them.

The only thing I see with them that might be an issue is that they are standard wheels that were used on many different brand machines. This means they are not compatible with wheel weights, should you ever want them.

@eo1bart  those 37 " decks are noted for issues , mainly rotational , see all the related  idler pulleys , with tiny  sealed bearings ? guess what  failure area is  ?  had one as part of a  vacuum lift set up , that I sold , personally  would  change that set up over to a  R/D 36 " deck , same hook up , but much more reliable / pete

I have a set of wheels if you're interested.   Not sure what shipping would be.

Pete,

I'm currently rebuilding the deck, and have already replaced all the bearings. I did not see any cracks in the deck either, which from what I understand is common at the cradle mounts on these decks.

Also this mower will not get much use. I bought the tractor mainly for snow plowing, and pulling a wagon and leaf sweeper.
