42" RD deck

Recommended Posts

John c

I found me a 42" RD deck last week that was close enough to go get, not rusted out beyond the point of salvage, and affordable. I've been wanting a RD for some time now so I'm happy to find it.  I plan to hang it on my 314-8 tractor.

The spindle housings are still very solid and were damp showing signs of lubrication present around the shaft even before I put a little bit of Kroil on the blade nuts.

I'm going to get it cleaned up this weekend so I can figure out what needs to be done to make it serviceable. The very first thing I wondered is, is there a better way to clean out the webbing in front between the arches around the blade baffles. Does anybody have a parts and or users manual for it based on the ID tag.

Here's a few pictures, and insights and ideas are welcomed

Suspect the owner manual for deck model 05-42MR01 will be correct but the 05-42XR01 is listed for the 1980 B-112, B-115 and B-165 Twin tractors.

Compare the IPL's to see if there is a difference.

Keep in mind this TIPL includes the 36" decks but may fail to identify what parts fit what deck.

I recall but can not find it now where a service bulletin announced they were assigning some decks different model numbers so they could track where they were but were the same deck.

What we have for the 05-42XR01

@Johnc definitely  a  saveable unit , I have 3  42" R/D  decks  , zero rot anywhere, first thing I have always done is remove the under deck baffling  , the moisture factor and trapped grass in the closed areas is not worth it , top side deck pictures , the long UNSUPPORTED , BELT RETURN ? right in the middle of that back side  belt , drilled a hole and added a 3 " flat idler pulley ? eliminate belt bounce , that helps eat bearings . did a number of improvements  on my decks , all related bearings  , replaced , and cleaned out  of original  grease , ?  they whine and shudder with original grease  , lucas X TRA HD green chassis grease , also mule drive bearings , a saveable deck is an opportunity , to experiment and improve whats there , trying to find related pictures , pete
