throttle shaft repair for k181 carbuerator?

Recommended Posts

horseman with no horse

my k181 carburetor on my 855 has a worn out idle set screw, and the tab that moves the throttle shaft is wore in the corner, coupled with the little bit of play thats already in the shaft and carburetor housings being a little worn, the tab on top the shaft where the governor linkage goes through gets stuck frequently past the idle set screw on the wrong side causing my engine to stall when i pull on the cable and its stuck. anything you guys thinking about to remedy this?

For this I'd seriously consider bending the tab a little.

On a small block Kohler carb this doesn't have an easy fix.

The bore isn't bushed like the big block carbs.

im willing to dril it out, smooth the shaft in my mini lathe. and smack a brash bushing in. but honestly the shaft and bore arent too wore. minor vacuum leak at worst yknow? im more considering just bending the tab like you suggested

If it's pretty minor you can compensate to some extent by settings.

Certainly better to run a little rich if possible.

Appears to me like that tab is bent allowing that to happen so tweaking it back into position with some needle nose pliers will make it contact the end of the screw and eliminate the catch

Bend it. It just needs to make solid contact on that screw in a place on the tab where it won't bind up.

You can also try just placing a small brass washer on throttle shaft as opposed to drilling and bushing. made a difference in one of my small block carbs.
