B-80 no spark

Recommended Posts

Wheeliegurl

I have been trying to fix up my B-80, after a year of sitting.  She was running fine and then now will not catch a spark.  Put on a new carb, replaced the engine head due to there being a worn plug sleeve on the old one, new gas filters, new plug.  She turns over but won’t spark and no gas on the plug after attempts to start her.  Electric is getting through the plug wire…wth

Hello,

and :text-welcomeconfetti:

Generally after sitting any good amount of time, the points can use a good cleaning.  Try that first, and get back to us on the results.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

Do you have a spark tester on the plug wire that is showing spark?

Could be vapor locked from no fuel being in carb bowl, new filter, the lines and the pump. Try a squirt of fuel directly into the carb with the air filter off and see if she fires up. You might need to repeat that process if it does fire until the system is full of fuel

As   :text-yeahthat:   said it is a process. Do not be in hurry when working on these tractors. Think it thru and look at all the manuals here.

It  will run.

Have you been using gasoline with ethanol? The ethanol will leave deposits that will ruin a fuel system.

Sounds like you have a need to check things over step by step.

Is fuel getting to the carburetor?

Turn off the valve on your tank, place a suitable container under the fuel hose going to the fuel pump and remove the hose. Now open the tank valve and check for fuel flow.

If you have fuel flow to the pump reconnect the hose and move on to the fuel pump outlet, remove that fuel line and the spark plug. Use the starter to turn the engine over a couple of revaluations, there should be a strong fuel flow.

If the fuel pump is working well I would suggest you rebuild your old carburetor, the new ones from China are junk.

Do these fuel system checks and let us know what you find.

Once you do get the engine running be sure to run it up to temperature, let it cool and then redo the head bolt torque sequence.

Might need to do that as couple of times to get everything seated.
