Mattthetrac 12 #1 Posted 23 hours ago I’m back. I have replaced the sparkplug and there is still no spark no matter what I do. Any recommendations or ideas?
adsm08 3,237 #2 Posted 23 hours ago Did you try replacing the coil/magneto? The plug doesn't make the juice to make the spark, it just leaves a gap that makes the spark.

Options: 1 - Check to make sure that your ignition is not grounded out. Through the key switch, a safety switch, or a bad wire. 2 - Pull the fly wheel off to inspect, clean, or replace the points. 3 - Forget about pulling the flywheel to check the points and replace the points coil with a solid state coil. Briggs & Stratton part # 398811. or aftermarket equivalent This would be the option that I would go with if you find that the ignition is not grounded out and you need a coil or points. 2

You never did respond telling us what you found out about the "cut wirer." We are willing to help but you need to let us know what has been done. As @Achto mentioned there is a wire from the "M" terminal on your ignition switch that goes to the engine. If that wire has bad insulation and is making cosntact with the metal parts of the engine or the tractor it will prevent the ignition system from working, check it out. The service manual for your engine has a lot of good information in it, reead it carefully befor diving into the engine. In particular read the steps for removing the flywheel and testing the igniition system to prevent damage to the engine.
Achto 29,401 #5 Posted 7 hours ago (edited) I'll let Taryl give you a run down on changing from a points coil to solid state coil on a Briggs. Edited 6 hours ago by Achto

If you are checking for spark at the spark plug like that, you need to have the plug body grounded to bare ground , not any of that painted engine surface , and just holding it in your hand where it is at currently, of course you'd see no spark.....
