314 42in rear discharge recycler deck blades

Recommended Posts

Trying to get my dads WH 314 42in recycler rear discharge deck cutting good. Its leave little strips of uncut grass between the blades currently.  Ive adjusted the deck per manual.  PO had 2 blades on upside down but fixed that and still cutting bad. These blades are 14in and I thought I saw somewhere that it should have  14.5in blades. Any help is appreciated. I own 3 other WH with decks and this one will not cooperate lol

Please note that the blade measurement is taken from the outer tip of one cutting edge to the outer cutting tip of the other cutting edge - in effect the diagonal measurement of the blade.

I'm  going to guess that your current blades have been sharpened many times.  Each time a blade is sharpened, the diagonal dimension is reduced.  Sharpen them enough times and their effective cutting diameter won't overlap, leaving your uncut strips between the blades.

I was able to purchase a new set of blades for my 42" RD deck a couple years ago from my local Toro dealer.  Maybe not the cheapest source, but they were correct.

If you could find the model number and serial number of your deck, somebody here can point you to the proper part number for the blade.  If you can't find the numbers, do you have an approximate year for the deck?

:text-yeahthat:buy the OEM set, its going to run you around $80 to $90 for the set, but they will last you twice as long as a set of aftermarkets if not longer:handgestures-thumbupright:

Handy Don

You probably know this, but when sharpening I am always conscious that I’m taking metal off the blade and shortening its life. I strive to take the least amount necessary to get a sharp edge at the proper angle.

@Handy Don  often  refer to using a small fine file  on blades , to minimise  metal removal . not a fan  of recycler decks , because of their poor design at retaining  grass / rot . personally  have removed any / all  baffles on my decks , my main thought  is through  emptying , easy clean out  and oil  / sun  lubrication regularity , like this . end of season decks are  clean oiled , standing up  on wheel ends , up against wall , blades sharp  oil  spray down , REPEDITIVE PROBLEMS  are my bag . like to eliminate them , pete
