bennyt192 2 #1 Posted Sunday at 09:45 PM Hi, I am currently repairing a toro wheelhorse 520lxi with the kawasaki fd620d engine. I replaced the lower radiator hose and when I went to test it, I noticed the temperature gauge seems to be fluctuating a lot. It will slowly go up until it almost reaches the red and then it will drop back down. It constantly does this. I bled the air out at the water pump. I’m not sure if there’s another bleeder screw I’m missing. Maybe this is normal for these tractors? Any advice is much appreciated.
RED-Z06 2,571 #2 Posted Sunday at 11:31 PM Is the belt good and snug with no slipping for the fan? Radiator is full, surge tank showing full? How far down does it come from the near red point?

JoeM 8,337 #4 Posted Monday at 02:11 AM I have an LXI with a loader and it does that it’s just the thermostat opening and closing you do want to make sure the radiator is full so when the engine is cold, take the cap off and make sure the radiator is filled up to the top
bennyt192 2 #5 Posted Monday at 04:28 PM I checked the belt and it’s tight. The coolant reservoir and radiator are full. The needle gets a little over 3/4 and then drops back down. It never overheats. I’m just wondering if the needle is supposed to remain steady or if it’s ok that is fluctuating. JoeM says this is normal? Thanks for the responses
pfrederi 18,669 #6 Posted Monday at 05:00 PM Most thermostats have a range. They start to open at the labeled Temp then open wider until fully open ..usually 10-15 degrees hotter than just starting to open temp.

JoeM 8,337 #8 Posted Tuesday at 08:31 PM @bennyt192 Got vid of the cycling. The machine is not under a load, it is more aggressive when running it hard. Keep in mind that temp gauge is not a precision gauge just a general indicator of what is going on with the coolant.
OoPEZoO 572 #9 Posted yesterday at 12:15 AM I have a long history with BMW motorcycles. It is often said that no one ever knew that they overheated until they put temperature gauges on them
