Dave Lister 0 #1 Posted Wednesday at 02:26 PM (edited) I restored my grandfathers 1962 702 recently. After getting it back together and running the brake shaft in not turning. There for the belt pulley will not stop spinning. Best I can tell from researching is something between the two has broken? kpinnc 14,550 #2 Posted Wednesday at 02:40 PM For the brake shaft to turn, the rear wheels must as well. Unless the keystock is missing... If your belt guard is not on the tractor, the belt won't stop when the clutch is depressed. The belt guard supports the bottom of the belt so the slack transfers to the pulleys.
Handy Don 13,934 #3 Posted Wednesday at 04:07 PM Yep, the brake shaft is geared to the differential so at least one rear wheel must be turning for the brake shaft to turn. This is also a hint about why rear wheel traction is so important to WH braking!
stevasaurus 23,274 #4 Posted Wednesday at 04:25 PM Did you open and rebuild the transmission ?? Your belt guard must be on the horse in order for the clutch system to work. If you are seeing the input pulley turning and the brakeshaft not turning, you are in neutral and nothing is wrong. Need more information.
