Electric fuel pump

Recommended Posts

I bought the Carbole electric fuel pump a while back to put on my SK486 but never got around to it. So now the mechanical pump quit working. I went to get it out and installing it to find out its 5/16" nipples. And everything on these tractors are 1/4" gas lines and fittings.

Question is can you still you it with some kind of reducers to fit 1/4" lines? Ive never used one before.

Also if buying a replacement mechanical pump what is everyong using? Ebay and Amazon has tons of cheap looking plastic ones at different prices.

Thanks

Bo

I started using vacuum pulse pumps on Kohlers whenever ever the mechanical pump fails.  I make up these mounting plates.  Easy to make if you have a drill press.   Use a quality OEM pump.  Kawasaki PN 49040-0803 is my go to for this application.  Pump is made in Japan by Mikuni who makes most OEM pumps for Briggs, Kawasaki and Kohler.

Most inline fuel filters have both 1/4 and 5/16 sized barbs. You just trim the 1/4 off on one side. Might be a good spot to "step down" to 1/4 if needed.

Carbole pumps seem to be pretty decent. I've been using one for a couple years with no issues.

One day I'm gonna try this. Next Kohler that needs one will get this mod. Very nicely done!

Carbole pump is identical to Facet.

The threads are 1/8" pipe.  Get some 1/8" pipe 1/4" hose barbs.

953 nut

:twocents-02cents:            Mechanical fuel pumps and vacuum/ pulse fuel pumps share a couple of thing that make them prone to problems. If the diaphragm leaks you will get gasoline in your engine oil and if one of the check valves fails the pump won't pump.

I began running electric fuel pumps about fifteen years ago and have them on everything except the "Barn Find 953" which has not been altered.

I just did a facet pump on my C-161 and I have zero regrets about it. I would just do as previously stated, grab some new hos barbs, swap them out and you're good to go.
