This could get a tad sticky. Early decks had a 3/4" spindle & blade, later was thw metric 17?? MM version. The spindle cartridges are interchangable, so there might even be a mix??? You really need to know which style you have....

If you are looking for an aftermarket alternative to the 5/8" x 3/4" double-D center hole there is none. If you can not find new used is the best you will do.

i'm interested in this thread because i have a very nice shape 36 inch RD deck i was going to give to a friend.  i looked into the blades and the prices range from $100 to $265!!!

is that the best price?

i took off my main drive pulley on the deck along with the spindle under it, all three spindle pulleys have decent groves in them from running all these year so they are gonna all need replacing (let me know if anyone has got pulleys they wanna sell cheap) and the spindle itself seems bent because no matter how tight i bolt it down to the deck it wobbles on the deck like its loose, and when i took it off and spun it with the blade in my hand it wobbled, which sucks because the bearings seem good in that one. so idk if i need the whole spindle but im guessing so. the other spindles aren't as bad but they need new bearings for sure, as for the blades they are in fact the double D style. also i noticed my tension-er on the deck was sloppy, so im gonna need to clean it up and paint it and replace the little plastic guides that it travels on to take up the slop. so all in all i now need all three pulleys, the front main spindle, some plastic bits, and the blades. and im DEFINITELY gonna replace all the hardware as its BAD. let me know if you guys can help me for parts. i dont really know where to start like i said i emailed K and B about the blades, but i still need pulleys and a spindle. also how do you even replace the bearings in the spindle? lol im a little lost

hello horseman with no horse,

too bad you live so far from me.  i have a practically new 36 inch RD deck i would sell you.  you might want to try finding another deck in your area and save whatever you can from yours for spare parts   sounds like your deck needs a lot of parts.  what shape is the shell in?

regards

mike

the shell, lift bracket, and wheels are decent. its been welded but its still pretty decent and has the OG stickers. it needs some touching up on the baffles in terms of welding but its solid otherwise. i would love to buy your deck if i was close enough

@horseman with no horse  perfect time to improve those spindles , when you replace those bearings , also clean out and upgrade the lubrication , wide bearing side shields  make this very easy , also detail in function of every related lever connection area , washer them up, lubricate for solid / smooth , connective action . totally clean out bearings , lucas x tra hd , green chassis grease , note 550 deg  flash point . related mule drive , bearings can get the same improvement , these decks can  operate very easily , mule drives , can also  operate / engage  smoothly / easily . done a number of these upgrades , so worth it , pete

Private message me here or call/text during normal business hours.  Email is the worst way to reach me as It does not get checked frequently.  I should have all the other parts in stock.

sadly K and B doesn't stock the blades anymore, does anyone know the disassembly procedure and reassembly procedure for the spindles? also does any one got any advice on pulling off stuck pulleys from the spindles? i soaked them in WD-40 for the past 2 days now and i haven't tried real hard to get them off so i was just curious. I'm not sure if my front spindle is bent or if the housing is bent i can't tell, but the housing keeps working itself loose from the deck and no matter how much i tighten the bolts it still rocks slightly on the deck.

What spindles do you have?

Click on the fuzzy picture in this link

Click on the pictures on the page that comes up. It shows the original spindle and the three that replaced the original design.

The 103119 bearing is still available from Stens. Commonly called a water pump bearing.

The G, A and Z designs all use blades with a 3/4" center hole. If you have to replace the spindles it would be best to do it using the newer designs so you have a source for blades in the future. The pulleys are likely different so you would need to match their current OD to get the correct speed.

That sounds like part of the spindle base is missing -- corrosion or wear from being loose?

does that little piece the blade notches and bolts into come out with the spindle cartridge? or does it have to be pressed off and on to the new one?
