cam2363 3 #1 Posted June 30 Bought a 718 Z today. Right side wheel spins and left side will not. Trans fluid was low, but filling it made no difference. I removed the trannsmission and notices no resistance when spinning the output. I pulled the chain off the good side, theres a little slop and then it gets hard to turn which I assume is normal as it works, so I am assuming I need a transmission but was curious if anyone has any other solution as they seem to be very hard to find and are expensive, or if anyone has one laying around id be more than happy to purchase it. Number on it is 700-022 if that matters. Thanks for any input!
Handy Don 14,061 #3 Posted June 30 (edited) Welcome to the forum and good luck on your search! The Eaton 6 & 7 series are typically well-matched to a machine like a tractor or z-turn where the only job is motion. They are not suited for pulling or pushing heavy loads nor should they be pushed without the engine running. Give the manual a good and careful read and you’ll be up on them. kpinnc 14,632 #4 Posted June 30 Another thing: if memory serves, that machine uses two different Eaton transmissions. One is clockwise (CW) and the other is counter clockwise (CCW) in their outputs. It should be stamped on the housing just below the control arm. Just something to keep in mind while you are looking.
Ed Kennell 41,957 #5 Posted June 30 (edited) The left one is CCW and available from Toro for $4900+ The right one is CW and no longer available. Edited July 2 by Ed Kennell
Ed Kennell 41,957 #6 Posted July 1 (edited) My 314A has the Eaton 700-015 transmission. I don't know if it is CW or CCW. I guess the input has to be CCW on the 314. Edited July 1 by Ed Kennell

I thought mine was the other way around but I will have to double check. Definitely not putting 5k into a 500 dollar machine
Ed Kennell 41,957 #8 Posted July 2 Item 5 is part number 113568 on the TORO parts list as CCW and replacing 20205.

I work in automotive so thats how we do things. I checked and the pump has a CW on it

cam2363 3 #12 Posted July 4 I figured out my solution, I do feel stupid but I work on european car, not lawn mowers. I pulled it apart today and found nothing wrong. Once I understood how it functioned, I realized there was a fill plug and I never put oil in there, just the res. The res was empty when I got it. I filled it and thought that was that. Once I realized It was just air locked, I put it back together and filled both with oil, as I was filling the fill port tons of air was coming out the res, and I had resistance now. Put it all back together and it works as it should! Im glad it was something simple but atleast I learned something new today. I have to adjust the linkage but its good enough for now. Chain fell off on the other side so I have a new project now haha
