D250 Should I?

Recommended Posts

jsp_333

Got the opportunity to pick up a D250.

According to PO it ran two years ago.

It needs a battery and a fuel line and if I do decide to buy it "Bring a buddy to help load it"

I've read threads about parts being scarce  and po said he got an oem carb and fuel pump from France.

I haven't seen it myself yet, but appears to be a complete tractor with mower deck, blower, blade and tiller.

Do the attachments fit any other D series tractor? I'd probably sell everything but the blower.

Are other D series a source for parts?

I don't really have time for another project tractor and my space is limited.

Asking 1900 CDN  or 1400 US.

Thoughts,  Opinions about the practicality of owning operating a D250

You may need to bring a couple of buddies. My FIL had a used D250 with a FEL. It arrived on the back of a rollback tow truck. Well over 1500 pounds in weight...

And yes, the attachments are D series specific.

The D250 is actually a rebranded Gutbrod tractor, that was made in Germany. There are very few similarities (if any) to a D160 - D200.  I would think that most of the implements would be D250 specific.

So fair to say these things are Wheel Horse in name only.....  And "rare" means "impossible to find" parts - an expression I came across more than once on other threads on the D250.

Would I be excommunicated from RS if I bought it and parted it out?

You’d need to find a customer base looking for all the parts to find value…

WHX??

I would stay away from one unless I had Pullstart's time & money .

I mean they are a cool tractor but definitely a labor of love. This nice one came up for sale on MP & fairly local for a princely sum of 3500 but has a deck, tiller & blade. Definitely for hardcore collectors only.

If it runs & drive a wouldn't part out. It would take alot of time to sell parts and would guess much would end up as scrap.

:angry-tappingfoot:        If all it needs is a fuel line and battery then why didn't the seller spend a few bucks and make it more desirable?       :confusion-shrug:      They all ran when parked two years ago.       :scratchead:         Is the transmission any good?   Won't know the answer until it is running.

Unless you have a burning desire to own a 250  I would resist the urge to get into this potential money pit.

You've confirmed what I was thinking.  I don't need a hulk hanging around the property reminding me it needs my attention.

And certainly not a hard core collector.  I'll pass.

:text-yeahthat:

When Achto or I go look at one and it doesn't run or drive it's usually immediately a $100 tractor unless proven other wise. If it's a Kohler or even a Briggs and the piston goes up and down it's a plus. We know we can get it running in short order.

Never fails to make me wonder why the seller wouldn't get it running to make it worth more $$. Ran when parked means nothing you guys know that. I guess some folks don't get that.

This would be 100% true. When I restored my McLean (Definitely a labor of love), I had to make every piece needed to get it back to show room condition, including making all new transmission pieces.

Took a ton of work to make this...

Into this...

Maybe not for everyone, but I found it a fun project.
