Hobbyhorse99 1 #1 Posted June 26 Hey guys, looking for a little guidance hoping you guys can help me out so I have an 81 GT 2500 came with the hp Briggs, junk blew up, so I got on the old marketplace and found a Magnum 14 out of a 95 Toro. But I’m not really sure how to wire it up. The Kohler has a 5 pin connector on one side and a 3 pin on the opposite side but im not sure what wires need to go where. It does have an oil level sensor that I won’t be using so that will get rid of 2 of the wires any guidance and information would be greatly appreciated, I do have the tractor. The kohler came out of but I didn’t really want to have to swap the whole harness if I didn’t have to as there’s a lot of stuff I won’t be using
953 nut 59,716 #2 Posted June 26 Since your GT-2500 was magneto ignition and the Magnum is also the majority of the wiring will be the same. Your starter wire from the B&S will be connected directly to the Kohler starter. Your ignition and safety switches can be used as is, no change needed. The diagram shows a black wire leaving the "Kill Relay" and a green wire going to the Magneto on your B&S, this wire will be connected to the white (or Pink) wire from the Magnum engine will connect to it. Depending on the charging system of the Kohler some slight changes will be made. Post a picture of the front of the Kohler's fan shroud and we can tell you what needs to be done. 2
953 nut 59,716 #4 Posted June 26 That purple wire should go to a three wire connector on the voltage regulator. If you do have the three wire connector then you can run the purple wire from the engine to the Yellow lighting wire and the RED charging system wires of your tractor. Hobbyhorse99 1 #5 Posted June 27 There is a hole there but no regulator. And a flat 3 spade connector
Hobbyhorse99 1 #6 Posted June 27 Also, not really sure why but none of my wiring matches this schematic color wise, so I just went through and traced out every wire, im pretty sure I did everything right, but I can’t start it until I get the regulator, carb, and fuel pump, someone robbed them off the motor prior to me getting it, I did put a battery in it and I have spark while cranking and nothing melted😂

LOL A squirt bottle of gas into the intake and it'll fire up if other things are in order. Just don't run it very long and be mindful as a backfire out through the intake has a hazard involved.

Run the purple wire from the engine to the Yellow lighting wire and the RED charging system wires of your tractor.
