1997 416H SEAT PROBLEM

Recommended Posts

TheMooseIsLoose

I am restoring a 1997 WH 416H and in need of a new seat. Can’t find an original as shown with the safety switch inside the seat.

How do I bypass this switch or would I have to add a button type switch in the seat pan. I don’t know the insides of this switch on how it works and would rather bypass it.

Any help would be appreciated.

I used the KM 125 Uni Pro from “tractorseats.com”. Has the 7.5x8 bolt pattern needed. They also have the button switch available. Worked great on my 416H.

I do believe that the switch is normally open and closes when you sit on the seat. If you connect the 2 wires that go to the switch together, this would by pass the switch.

We don't encourage anyone to bypass safety switches. They are there to protect you in the event of an accident. Most new garden tractor and mower seats will have provisions for this type of switch. Look before you buy.

How do these switches attach to the seat, is there a particular place under the seat for this to fit into?

I have the same seat on my 416-H. Mine came with the safety switch.

There is a slot cut into the foam padding the switch slides into. The end with the wire attaches to the seat frame with a screw.

I'm going to order a seat but on their website for the diagram of seat bolt pattern it doesn't show the 7.5 width but the 8.0 is ok.

Received seat, all holes are present but there are only 4 threaded holes the rest have no threads. Now I will have to fabricate a plate to use threaded outside holes. Plastic bottom with 4 twinserts.

My KM-125 bolt pattern (threaded) matched the holes on the hinged platform of my 416 perfectly. I'm not sure what would be different on yours.

Also, having never really looked closely at the bottom of the seat until now, it has a manufacturers mark. Milsco Seat. XB 150. All holes are threaded.

All holes threaded

And built-in safety switch

Just checked mine. All holes are threaded also. Possibly a defective seat from the factory you received. I would contact the seller.

Take a look at your model number on the left.

That does not look like KM-150 or XB-150

There should be a metal plate behind those holes in the plastic, as there is for the correctly threaded holes. Definitely NOT as advertised!

So, I called the manufacturer and told him my problem. He said yes there is a problem with that seat that they are trying to resolve. He looked for a seat with a 7.5 x 8.0 pattern and he suggested the KM-225 (8773) and I also ordered the safety switch. So, I with try that when I get it. The kicker is he didn't want the other seat back (not worth the hassle) and am getting my payment back. Thanks for all your help
