kpinnc 14,589 #27 Posted September 23, 2009 Well, I can say I learned something today- A different perspective. While I still think that JOP and others certainly fill a necessary requirement, I had never considered that he was buying machines out from other perspective bidders for the whole purpose of parts. I'm sure that stings a bit. Jim and Stephen certainly made good points that I had not considered. The thing that makes me wonder though- Where do all the parts he doesn't list go? You don't see as many frames, etc.., as parts on his listings... Perhaps I just don't look closely enough. Kevin

No, Kevin, I think you are looking as closely as any of us. I've wondered the same thing on several occasions. I've bought a fair number of parts from JOP and generally at very good prices (for instance, I got a near mint 312 hood I needed for $15 plus shipping, and it was packed perfectly), but there are other things I've been looking for and when the rest of the parts were listed for a particular machine what I needed never appeared. I would make a wild guess that he may have some good customers he deals with directly who may give him a list of things they need with the request that he calls them if a certain part comes in on a machine. As long as he hasn't already listed it on eBay, he's not breaking any rules. I, too, cringe when I see an apparently good machine get parted out (the aforementioned mint hood was accompanied by an equally mint fender pan, so the machine they came off from couldn't have been total junk!). But JOP and some others have made my 312-8 #3 possible - it was otherwise headed for parting out to finish #2. I guess it's all in how one looks at it.
