953 nut 59,773 #2 Posted June 23 The governor gear replacement will require a total disassembly of the engine. The attached Service Manual will guide you through the process.
Scott from ontario 3 #3 Posted June 23 There is no way of fixing the governor from just taking the oil off of taking the cover off just below it I didn’t want to break down the whole motor if I don’t have to
squonk 43,734 #4 Posted June 23 (edited) Nope. Got's to tear down the whole enchilada. Most likely the tab on the governor shaft broke off. It's buried under this area by the cam. Cam has to come out which means the flywheel side bearing plate has to come out to see the timing marks. Edited June 23 by squonk
Pullstart 66,623 #5 Posted June 23 Are you sure it can’t simply be adjusted externally?

Scott from ontario 3 #8 Posted June 24 Is there a way to tell if the governor wheel is gone inside the motor I took the bottom off and the cam wheel cover on the front the gears look good from what I can see but not sure how to tell if it would work with the motor running
953 nut 59,773 #9 Posted June 24 With the engine inverted you may be able to view the governor gear turning turning while the crankshaft is turned. The governor gear is driven off the cam gear. Things are a bit tight in that area so all you are likely to see is the plastic gear turning.
