How to replace governor gear on a 1963 wheel horse tractor 953 motor

Good afternoon everyone I was wondering if anyone can help me out on changing the governor gear and parts for the motor mine does not work at all and it was my grandfathers tractor I’m trying to fix

953 nut

The governor gear replacement will require a total disassembly of the engine. The attached Service Manual will guide you through the process.

There is no way of fixing the governor from just taking the oil off of taking the cover off just below it I didn’t want to break down the whole motor if I don’t have to

Nope. Got's to tear down the whole enchilada. Most likely the tab on the governor shaft broke off.

It's buried under this area by the cam. Cam has to come out which means the flywheel side bearing plate has to come out to see the timing marks.

Are you sure it can’t simply be adjusted externally?

This is a small block Kohler, but they adjust the same.

Anyone know what I can use or size of the sleeve inside the governor the one that is behind the bolt on the motor the sleeve part in the picture that I was sent on here please

Is there a way to tell if the governor wheel is gone inside the motor I took the bottom off and the cam wheel cover on the front the gears look good from what I can see but not sure how to tell if it would work with the motor running

With the engine inverted you may be able to view the governor gear turning turning while the crankshaft is turned. The governor gear is driven off the cam gear. Things are a bit tight in that area so all you are likely to see is the plastic gear turning.
