adsm08 3,138 #2 Posted June 21 The detent that holds it in until it gets hot is probably broken or worn. I'm not sure how possible it is to take one apart and try to fix that, but they are pretty universal pieces, so you might be able to find an aftermarket one at a parts store.

kpinnc 14,571 #4 Posted June 22 I grew up with both my parents being smokers. As with many who smoked back in those days (70s and 80s), they had no idea or concern about how much it affected others. Especially true in a car on a trip lasting more than 30 seconds... To say I despised it is an understatement! So years later, I get my second Wheel Horse (867) that just happened to have a lighter. During the course of it's restoration, I found a plug that gave me a chuckle. Either my aviation background or maybe a Freudian slip or both, but I added this in place of both my tractors lighters... They still make me smile. 1

They are the detent which holds it until the heat rises and makes it weak enough to release it. Bending them ever so slightly will hold it. Do it in small increments until the lighter works properly 2
