Razorback 1,104 #1 Posted June 15 Since I acquired my C-160 and several attachments a few years ago, the one attachment that I had not used is the Mighty Mac shredder. After I cultivated the garden, I got the Mighty Mac out of the corner of the shed and commenced to mounting it on the front of the tractor, then used it to grind up some straw. It worked well one the dry stuff, of course, but a lot of my straw pile is wet/damp, so I will probably compost that. All in all, it was a fun afternoon.
ebinmaine 71,951 #2 Posted June 15 AWESOME! The Mackissic we restored here has earned a permanent place on the front of one of my own C160s for the foreseeable future. 1
EB-80/8inPA 1,814 #3 Posted June 15 That looks exactly like my stand-alone unit minus the frame, engine, wheels, and the poorly designer tow bar that’s always in the way. The Briggs on it is not rated by horsepower nor displacement; 11.5 foot/pounds torque, IIRC. They’re super handy machines.

I contacted the company when I first got this thing and asked if a chipper could be added to it... unfortunately, they said no...

Mine came with that setup from the factory (hopper’s on the far side) Maybe it can’t be made to work in the tractor-mounted configuration? But I’d bet someone with welding and fab skills could make it work with the correct parts. It looks like the same box. The chipper body of the Model 9P without the side chute or 12P with side chute is the same as the implement mount like we have on our tractors. You're likely already aware these were marketed by several manufacturers. JD, Bolens, Gravely. Etc... Just different attachment mechanisms. The pull cart type is simply another mechanism for attachment.

I have a 3 point Mac 3.5” chipper that looks very similar to that, minus the chipper chute. Works great.

I’ve used an 8hp MacKissic and own a 6.5hp Tomahawk. My neighbor has a tow-behind 8hp Garden Way. All do a good job. If you have the place to store it and it’ll get used a few times a year, a chipper shredder is a great tool to have. 1
