Onan P220 oil filter gasket

I am replacing a very old outside oil filter gasket on my Onan P220. It's the gasket  that is placed between the oil filter and the cooling tin. Do I just slide it on to the oil filter and push it until it rests on the tin? A picture would be very helpful.

You are correct.  If you have an oil filter that is a bit small, it may not stay in place.  I use only Onan 122-0800 or Fleetguard LF3339 filters.

    If your grommet is dry and cracked, replace it.   If your filter is too small, wrap it with a layer of duct tape.

i am having a problem with getting my gasket on the filter it , it is just too tight to get it on , it is a new to me tractor , it did not have one on it when i got it , not sure what is up ,is it possibe the wrong filter was used

I guess it is possible, but I have never seen a filter that was too big.   Did you try greasing and stretching  the grommet?

thanks everyone for the information. I tried soaking it into hot water putting it on. It was getting close but still wouldn't do it. I think I'll soak it in hot water and run the engine to where the filter is hot and see if that won't stretch it enough to get it on if not, I'm gonna send it back. It doesn't feel like rubbery. It feels more like a rubber vinyl composite or something that's kind of stiff maybe I got the wrong from a bad supplier

The one I just put on in the picture above was pretty snug, but I got on without too much trouble. What brand oil filter are you using?

Use a genuine Onan 122-0502 grommet and a Fleetguard LF3339 oil filter and report back.  Never trust a previous owner to install the correct parts and choose quality.

i agree new tractor to me , know very little as to its previous care , i will try and get the correct stuff and see , thank you

i tried to get the gasket from onan/cummins but they showed out of stock as a couple other places did also , any suggestions as to where they might be available , thank you
