PTO B80

Hopefully everyone enjoys spring!

I have tried to assemble the PTO of B80 (got two years ago as like the pictures). However, I am unable to figure out where the spring should be (I have two springs), looks like some parts are missing. What is the part number for the flywheel key?

They discontinued using the spring. They considered it not needed

The key is just a common 1/4" square key. Most any hardware store should have 1/4" key stock. I buy it in 12" lengths and cut it down to the length that I need. They should have shorter lengths in the Hillman drawers as well. Make sure that your set screw on the pully is in good shape, with a good sharp cup end. If not, I would suggest replacing that too. Also available at most hardware stores.

 

A key is only needed for the pully for the tractor drive belt and should not stick out past the pulley. The clutch disc bolts directly to that pully. The outer bell shaped pulley is free spinning until you engage the PTO forcing it against the clutch disc.

I am not sure I get your point - make sure that your set screw on the pully is in good shape, "with a good sharp cup end" - could you please send a picture of it.  

 

The set screw and two half-moon dices - I purchased from eBay.

There should be a set screw like the one pictured above that holds the drive pully to the crank shaft. It is located right over the key way. White arrow in the pic below shows the location on your tractor.

 

 

With a key and this set screw tightened down, this pulley will no longer slide in and out on the crank shaft.

I can get a video of mine tomorrow.  I have the exact same setup and I still use the spring.  It’s really easy once you see it. You will need the key and set screw if that isn’t on the drive pulley. I also leave the pto brake off. It stops on its own if it’s setup right.

@Phan how a bought these for the rest of it. Always a little tricky putting this all back together  if you not done many. I can be a head scratcher if not familiar with it. This is a 1977 B-80 I have. Been doing a lot of work on it.  My winter plow tractor. Enjoy yours when done.

Wrencher - Thanks a lot for your comments. Mine is in wonderful shape, I have had it for a few years but there are issues with the cab (I had just cleaned it and made adjustments - I hope it OK). I have never used so far. But the previous owner (lady) said that she used her for the snow plowing. I have noticed white smoke that makes me worried. The PTO that needs to be installed.
