Red_Texan 0 #1 Posted Tuesday at 03:16 PM Hello All, First time posting on here so thanks in advance for any advice. I am looking at purchasing the 36" WH tiller attachment fro my 90' 310-8. My main concern is making sure I have all the proper connections before I make the purchase. The tiller itself is complete and I know I will need the rear attach-a-mattic style harness for the back. Currently I am running a 37" mower deck and I am wanting to know if the lift assembly will come into play and if so will it use the same connection? Currently the lift arm (which has a chain attached) just slips through a long-oval hole on top of the mower deck. I am having a hard time understanding from pictures online how this is going to lift the tiller. Do I need a different connection that will go up under the tractor where the mower deck hangs? Lastly, does does anyone have experience running the tiller on a non hydro set up. Does lifting/adjusting height become an issue? I have seen guys run winches to assist but don't want to make any extra holes if I don't have to. Thanks, Brian

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,358 #3 Posted Tuesday at 08:44 PM Here is the illustrated parts list for the tiller sold in 1990 for your tractor. You can see all the parts required to make it work using this model. You do not necessarily have this particular model but should be able to make it work. Let us know what you see different. Your mower lift arm is different from the one that lifts the tiller. An assist spring can be added to help with the weight. This page is a good one to have on hand concerning the lift. https://www.partstree.com/models/31-10k801-310-8-toro-garden-tractor-1990/manual-lift-linkage-8/
kpinnc 14,128 #4 Posted Wednesday at 03:47 AM I ran a tiller on my 310-8 and it worked great. You're better off with a geared tractor for tilling anyway. Low range is your friend! Get the tiller if it is in decent mechanical condition! The mounting brackets and lift hardware are easily acquired (and shippable) but the tiller itself is an item that gets more rare every day.
mrc 891 #5 Posted Wednesday at 04:32 AM you need the following: the tiller itself the snowplow/tiller rear axle bracket the mid pulley apparatus the rear rockshaft/cable system...this is what lifts the tiller the belt everything can be found used or lowell from wh parts and more can hook you up. wh parts and more is a vendor here.
pfrederi 18,517 #6 Posted Wednesday at 12:41 PM You need take a close look at the tines. They should have blunt ends if the are worn to a point they will not work well at all and new tines are huge$$$

Brockport Bill 1,861 #8 Posted Wednesday at 04:36 PM ran tiller on my 312-8 -- works well - tractor handles unit easily - - just dont ask it to do project beyond its design intended capibilities -- dont expect it to easily break into hard untilled ground --- or dig into hard dry thick turf/lawn or similar ground -- obviously softer moist surface will be more successful -- or prior tilled ground

They look pretty sharp but when you zoom in they look like other tillers I have used... what do you think. The unit itself looks like it is in immaculate condition. Thanks for the reply! Ok, i have definitely been to wH parts and more and plan on buying the rear attach-o-mattic bracket from them. Just to clarify you are saying the mid lift linkage is NOT the same as what lifts the mower deck? It looks alot the same and has the chain linkige. Could I just get a longer chain to use with the linkage I have?
mrc 891 #11 Posted yesterday at 01:03 AM Red-Texan, your big lift arm on the left side of the tractor is connected to the center rockshaft. the center rockshaft lifts the mower deck AND that is where you would also connect the cable that would run to the rear rockshaft to lift the tiller. you could purchase a rear rockshaft kit from wh parts and more. longer chain??? .....Fuhggedaboudit!!! i will send you a PM regards mike
