I don't even know where to start......:scratchead: How do you drain the old trans oil? Where do you put the new oil in? How much oil are you supposed to put in? Do you clean the trans with diesel before putting new oil in? Please Help!!!! All tips, tricks, and advice appreciated!! Thanks in advanced for your reply!!!:D

WHX??

What tractor/transmission you talking here?

Gear jammer ... hydro?

There is a 1/4" allen plug on the bottom rear left side.  Clean it out to get a good bite. Drain is through there. Elevate the front end up as safely high as possible after it has drained. This will get more oil out.

Note the color/consistency of what comes out and report back. Pic would be nice.

That will tell us if you need to possibly flush it.

Are you having any issues with it?

Be sure to clean the Allen socket of the plug real good so that the Allen wrench will go all the way to the bottom. Otherwise you may strip the inside of the plug and that will start a whole new adventure.

When putting the oil back in, I find it easier to remove the 2 bolts holding the seat on and use a small funnel for the oil.  Put in 1 1/2 qts of 90 wt.  This also makes cleaning the out side easy.

if you are goinjg to flush the trans, I put the rear end on blocks, add 2 qts diesel and run the tractor for about 10 minutes in each gear at 3/4 idle.  Do it twice if really dirty.  :occasion-xmas:

It is a 3-forward and 1-reverse speed manual transmission in a WH 856. I will try to load some pics of the trans and the oil soon. Thanks for your reply!:D

If it looks like chocolate pudding, you should flush it with diesel fuel. Run it through all gears, well. Drain. Might even do again. Till the fuel comes out fairly clean.

No to to buy an expensive brand transmission oil. On these simple so speed transmission something like the Walmart store brand 89w90 is fine.
:wwp: Just like little children.

I believe it is the pipe plug near the base of the LH axle tube. It is also allowable to remove the shifter and boot and fill through that hole.

WHX??

I remove the pipe plug and pump it in through the tunnel bolt holes. Those holes are tapped straight thru into the tranny. Fill until it appears in the pipe plug hole.

No pump no problem with the right funnel.

WHX??

Yes the two 9/16 bolts directly under the seat. They hold the tunnel down to the tranny top. Very easy to access.

Is either of the bolts better than the other to use? Thanks!
