c100 with tiller, rebuilt engine with 78 hours

Recommended Posts

Whats a ballpark price on a c100 with a rebuilt engine (78 hours on it) with a tiller and new rear wheels.

Don't know the year or any other info but look to be in good shape and taken care of, runs well don't see any smoke, no other attachments not even a deck.

Thanks,  Jim

Need a bit more information there. Was this engine sent to the machine shop to be bored and a new piston, valves etc. installed or did someone hone the cylinder and re-ring it?

I don't know I'm assuming he did it himself.

If the engine had been properly rebuilt that would add to the value. A running, driving C-100 in average condition with a tiller in my opinion should bring $ 500 to $ 600, perhaps a bit more if you don't have to drive too far to get it.

That depends on how many hours were on it prior to the "rebuild". Big difference between 400 hours and 1100 hours......

If the seller's story starts to have a distinct fishy smell, low ball or walk away. ASK to see receipts for the parts and labor...:handgestures-thumbupright:

I didn't know to ask if the rebuild was by a shop or him and he didn't say,  I think I'll pass on this one as I'm not informed enough to know what I should about a rebuild, I'll keep looking thank you

You might be missing out on a good deal @JCD It might have a great history and good value, or it could be something that you would be better off walking away from. Some additional information and pictures can tell us a lot.

Seems like on to ask more questions about, could be a real good one to pickup.

Neither of these has been rebuilt. (As far as I know)Just painted.

I have heard people on here say they are more comfortable buying tractors that have original paint, etc. That way they can look at the overall tractor and get an idea of how well it was maintained and taken care of.

I tried to address know/ obvious issues. But I would describe my Wheel Horses as “refreshed”, not rebuilt.

He very well could have done the same…

Is the a difference between a used car and a used tractor salesman ?

The lettering resembles intoxicated lipstick application. I might need a few more drinks to consider engaging in conversation with that.  (no offense intended if the seller happens to be lurking, but if you are you are welcome to jump in and provide some background. I'm curious about the wiring on the right side of this photo.)
