Could maybe file the ends of the rings to open the gap if you wanted the engine a little looser. (Taken from page 10 of the Kohler manual.) Top and Middle Compression Ring End Gap New Bore 0.25/0.45 mm (0.0098/0.0177 in.) Used Bore (Max) 0.77 mm (0.030 in.)
