1970s to 1966 tire fit question

Recommended Posts

Afternoon,

Seller near me has a 1970s C120 Wheelhorse for sale. Asking $125.00 total for the tractor… being it’s a Wheelhorse… would the wheels and tires if exact same size.. fit my 1966 856? Also is the seat pan the exact same for both tractors? Attached pictures of the 70s Wheelhorse.

There'll be other parts of value on that tractor.

The seat is a possibility if the metal frame is sound.

Any idea what 5 lug rims to fit 23x8.50x12 tires would cost? I’ve found i can get a pair tire of that size online new for around $120.00 but with no rims.. so debating if I should offer for these with the rims in good shape. It appears. Or if new rims arnt that much perhaps just go new for rims and tires

The backspacing on Wheelhorse rear wheels is proprietary to them.

Most other garden tractor wheels are deeper and often won't fit.

To get a set to an area with known rarity such as yours the best bet IMHO is to

CALL Lincoln at A to Z Tractor in PA

He'll have the wheels and the capability of shipping at the most reasonable price.

On the tires, use caution on brands. Most run small to scale nowadays. Some worse than others.

Avoid Deestone and Duro for size issues.

Even Carlisle/ Carlstar is shrinking though.

Feel free to post what you're looking at for help.

The Wheel Horse offset can be a bugger. It's about 1 3/16". Some models can get away with a bit deeper.  Also, I don't think those fronts are original. They should be 16-5.50 8. 6.50 would be fine. :)

I called them 3 times today no answer.. will call on Monday. How do the above tires appear from the limited photos for the rears? Good shape? If I did offer any idea fair price?

Those appear to be “snow hog “ tires usually used on walk behind snow blowers..

Lincoln is likely closed for the holiday.

The tread depth look fine but how's the weather cracking?

That's the key.

No worries. There's other options for wheels.
