a set of 5 lug pattern rear hubs in order to run the 6-12s

How much did you lift the seat to fit the 6-12 tires? The LR ran much smaller rears originally.

Did you do any pulley swap to adjust the gear ranges?

Definitely a mongrel, but an effective one!

pulley swap

Not positive here.... but I believe the engine pulley on a Lawn Ranger would be the same as any other mid 60s Tecumseh engine?

Trina's 657 had a 2" OD engine pulley.

Are the Lawn Ranger transmissions different?

Same transmission (3-speed) but stock rear tires are 9.5x8.0. Spec-wise they were a bit slower than their 6-12 cousins (5 vs 6 mph). Leaving everything else alone and just changing to 6-12s would be a change of diameter from ~18" to ~22” which, in round numbers, would account for the speed difference.

I used 2 pieces of 1-5/8 unistrut and longer thru bolts to raise the seat. I reused the original 2-1/2 drive pulley. By not using or needing the Tecumseh engine plate ,conveniently allows a direct fit for the Kohler small block., No gearing changes were needed otherwise. The only drawback is that I have to remove hood to check oil since the Magnum dipstick tubes are pressed in supposedly and I cant use the K series dipstick which would have been nice. I also swapped out the big Magnum air filter and cover for a 4-3/8 by 1-1/2 air filter in order to clear the grille. Lastly I was going to put a K141 in it but the starter generator wouldn't jive with a suitable gas tank so I will simply use a flex tube funnel to gas it up. It was a fun build with a hodge podge of parts I had. I have seen one other Ranger turned into a highboy but cant remember where.
